Fuel Treatment & Polishing

Due to the ever-increasing demand for Green/Bio Fuels internal tank integrity is being affected.

Bio Fuels contain a high level of additives that have been added to minimise environmental impact and improve their performance, but unfortunately they also effect the environment inside the storage tank.

The additives can encourage Bacteria to thrive at the fuel water interface level and if left untreated can spread throughout the tank space contaminating the fuel, filters and pumps. The Bacteria create water, sludge, acids and other harmful by-products increasing corrosion and decreasing the integrity of the storage tank.

LCM Environmental in partnership with Tanknology UK Ltd. and Petroman Ltd., have developed a complete fuel management programme to provide peace of mind to all operators of fuel installations. The total product solution is as follows:

LCM Environmental arrives on site and uplifts the fuel using Petroleum Regulated Tankers. The fuel is passed through filters and pumps that inject BioKlenz®, a product developed by Petroman Ltd, which destroys the environment that the Bacteria thrive in, this will in turn destroy the Bacteria.

The fuel is held in the tanker until our Sludge Removal Device has bottomed out the storage tank.

Bio-Klenz® works by completely absorbing any water within the tank, once the water has been eradicated the Bacteria suffocate and the Bio-Klenz®/fuel mixture then goes to work attacking and dissolving the actual Bacteria itself. The mixture is then dispensed through the fuel or filtration system cleaning as it goes and is simply burnt off in a vehicles combustion process.

Bio-Klenz® is NOT a Biocide but is detergent based and therefore has no detrimental effect whatsoever on the quality of fuel being used or dispensed. In fact it cleans vehicle fuel systems and increases the efficiency of the combustion process.

For the initial treatment of Bio-Klenz® and for the best results a mix of 1:500 will be administered directly into the tank through an entry in the tank lid.

Alongside this treatment our new fuel polishing system is used to restore the fuel to its original clean, water and microbe free condition.

Regular internal inspections of the tank using Tanknology UK Ltd’s Petroscope camera in conjunction with LCM Environmentals Petroleum Regulated Tankers, to hold and bottom out tanks, ensures the condition of a tank can be monitored at all times and if the condition deteriorates then this will be reported using a qualified corrosion engineer who can provide detailed analysis of the tank condition and make recommendations as to future action.
