Terminal Tank & Line Decommission

The Project

To decommission four of the main tank farm tanks and remove about 1 kilometre of associated fuel lines that ran from 2 of the former petrol tanks. The tanks comprised of 2 x 565,000L and 2 x 1,500,000L tanks.

The Solution

We first had to electrically isolate relevant circuits whilst ensuring the gauges etc still remained working for the client’s remaining tanks. We then mechanically isolated a series of valves and gauges to enable draining down the lines and dug them clean ready for removal.

A man entry tank clean was carried out to the two larger tanks so that they too were ready for removal. We removed the associated pipe work & pump from the tanks including the plant room.

Part of this pipe work included diverting a water fire main which circulated the entire tank farm, this then allowed us to import material to form temporary access into the tank farm over the bund wall which had to remain in situ during the tank removal works. We core drilled each tank base and sampled to identify if contamination had occurred.

Finally, all the material was removed, the water main reinstated and the site fully restored to how it was when we first arrived.

The Outcome

The project was completed on time to the satisfaction of both the client and their customer; a project completion report was issued. This project was used to benchmark further works for the client at other locations.
